Abstract

Purpose : This study was done to identify communication types of nursing students, and to use Q methodology to build understanding of the differences among these attitude types.

Methods : Q Methodology was used to examine the communication types of nursing students. Forty five participants classified 30 selected Q-statements on a seven-point scale to create a normal distribution. The collected data were analyzed using the PC QUANL program.

Results : Five types of attitudes toward communication types were identified. Type¥° was named ¡®Rational active behavior type¡¯, Type ¥±, ¡®Passive stability-oriented type¡¯, type ¥², ¡®Open-minded other-minded type¡¯, type ¥³, ¡®Realistic experience-oriented type¡¯, type ¥´, ¡®Passive AC avoidence type¡¯.

Conclusion : The results of this study may suggest development of programs in which characteristics of communication of nursing students in clinical practice were considered and systemic support for Q-methodologic approach and nursing education.
